The Maiden: An Exhibition About Love

Duke Street Arcade, Cardiff 2018

To actively seek out that which makes one feel alive is often detrimental to themselves; To give someone the power to hurt you, and hoping they don't ('La Petite Mort/ The little Death'). To hope that they fulfil you, but being aware that you must also fulfil them. A show of opposites and of similarities.

In the chaos of Love, One risks pain for Affirmation and Growth (whether pleasant or painful). In the fear of Death, one finds Peace in the only thing one can be certain of. My grandmother once said; 'You mourn the place that they once held within your life'. Is a human being really that fragile? or does their resilience allow them to become one with their 'shadow'?

Taking place over two weekends in July, (the hottest month of the northern hemisphere, and yet the coldest of the Southern) the show hopes to blur the lines between the two pivotal concepts within their confines. Occupying the new gallery space within the 'Creative Village' above the Duke Street Arcade, Cardiff. The first foray into solo-curation by Eden Dodd; 'Death & The Maiden' brings together important artworks and creatives from all backgrounds, both in Cardiff and beyond, to give their own peculiar takes on these most ethereal, and yet most present, of all primal forces.
